Voici la version gospel enregistrée par Johnny Cash sur son dernier disque... (en fait, Pete Seeger s'était inspiré de la lecture du Psaume 1).

Et il sera comme un arbre planté près des ruisseaux d'eaux, qui rend son fruit en sa saison, et dont la feuille ne se flétrit point; et tout ce qu'il fait prospère.

 Et on oublie trop souvent que toute la musique américaine a été très fortement inspirée par le milieu religieux (dans lequel ont baigné Ray Charles, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, et même Woody Guthrie! voir sa chanson Jesus - Christ, un vrai bijou... , même si beaucoup d'entre eux ont choisi une voie quelque peu différente...

Ensuite, de reconnaître avec quelle simplicité le grand homme a osé ne se munir que de sa guitare pour accompagner sa voix. Enfin de découvrir ou redécouvrir dans le répertoire choisi, un héritage intemporel transmis par les générations précédentes."
